The curriculum involves 500 hours with less than two (2) years of experience behind the chair / 250 hours with two (2) or more years of experience behind the chair to satisfy Delaware state requirements. The course educates prospective instructors cosmetology/esthetics teachers to address the needs of students in the classroom and the clinic floor. Prospective instructor learn to utilize a system of forward-focused thinking and front-end coaching. By learning the methods of teaching cosmetology, the prospective instructor learn to engage students in the learning process and stimulate the discovery process with visuals, music, and/or hands-on activities.
Graduates are prepared to be entry level instructors.
This course is taught in English. Textbooks and course materials are only offered in the English Language.
INSTRUCTOR COURSE OVERVIEW
Course Hours: 500 hours with less than 2 years’ experience behind the chair
250 hours with more than 2 years’ experience behind the chair
The instructor program course is divided into two designations: Pre-clinical Classroom Instruction and Clinic Learning Experience.
In the 500-hour instructor course, the first 150 hours are devoted to classroom and theory workshops where students learn design principles, technical information, and professional practices. The remaining 350 hours are spent in the clinic area where practical experience is gained.
In the 250-hour instructor course, the first 50 hours are devoted to classroom and theory workshops where students learn design principles, technical information, and professional practices. The remaining 200 hours are spent in the clinic area where practical experience is gained.
INSTRUCTOR COURSE OUTLINE
Your time in the Paul Mitchell The School - Delaware instructor program course will be divided into two designations:
- Pre-clinical Classroom Instruction: This section is a refresher on cosmetology skills and focuses on the theory of teaching, using Milady's Master Educator Textbook, including weekly tests.
- Clinic Learning Experience: You will learn to write lesson plans and do actual teaching from your lesson plans. There will be a practical teaching evaluation of your teaching skills.

INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE
The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 250-hour and 500-hour courses:
- Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each theory exam. Theory exams cover a review of Milady’s Master Educator Student Course Book.
- Assessment on Theory Lesson presentation. Student must receive a 75% or higher grade on all tests given.
- Assessment on workshop practical presentation. Student must receive a 75% or higher grade on all tests given.
- Mock state board covering lesson planning and practical skill assessment. Student must receive a 75% or higher grade on all tests given.
